Much Ado About CO2

Self-serving politicians and business continue to wage propaganda war against the Kyoto Accord, which has yet to be ratified in Canada. The argument is that ratification will drastically harm the economy, will reduce employment, and will generally make Canada, especially Alberta, less wealthy.

After years of battling profit-minded naysayers on similar issues, environmentalists have finally started to fight fire with water, instead of gasoline. That is, instead of droning on about environmental doomsday and people’s health (problems in which large businesses have never shown themselves to take an interest), they point out how Big Business may be totally wrong about the relationship between environmental concern and profit. In today’s Globe and Mail, columnist John Ibbitson, who isn’t exactly an NDP flunky or Clayoquot tree-hugger, points out the folly of oil companies arguing against lowering carbon dioxide emmissions.

In Earshot

I only really read it for Canucks coverage, but even still it’s nice that The Vancouver Sun finally redesigned its hideously awful website to look like it was designed this century.
