Is That The Best You Can Do?

Back in Montreal am I, where winter is only weakly at hand. Normally at this point in January you would need a pickaxe to chip away the frozen boogers hanging off your nose, but instead, while Athenians and Atlantans shovel out from their blizzards, Montrealers sit in a mild garden, the few measly centimetres of snow rapidly melting.

Meanwhile, in Africa, one country is undergoing a different sort of freeze. Thankfully, the world’s media are hardly silent. In one of the better articles, Zimbabwe journalist Basildon Peta offers his frank assessment of President Robert Mugabe’s latest transparent effort to maintain power.
